StarTRACK Graduate Trainee Programme 2010/2011
After graduating from university, I was looking for something that would give me the opportunity to experience and work in different departments. When I saw the recruitment ad in The Star, I quickly sent in my resume, because it was exactly the management trainee programme that I was searching for. I was definitely excited and couldn’t wait for the programme to start!
I was in the first batch of StarTRACKers, and there were seven of us – we worked in eight departments, each for one month. We had to go through four core departments – Advertising, Editorial, Circulation (which is now called Audience Management) and Production (now called Technical Services). We also got the chance to choose
four other departments; I chose Internal Audit, HR, Marketing Services and Corporate Communications.
Each department gave me many precious experiences. I went for an assignment as a reporter during my attachment with Editorial, for the launch of a new product series at Aeon Jusco and I got my first byline in StarMetro Central – which would never have happened without this programme. My one-month attachment with Production allowed me to learn all about the printing processes. It was very good exposure, with all the different experiences. The most important thing was getting the chance to learn from so many people from the various departments.
Also because of StarTRACK, I made six good friends – we went through all the ups and downs of the programme together.
Happy anniversary to The Star! Continue to be the People’s Paper for many more years.
