Pairin to retire as PBS chief


Passing the torch: Pairin is set to hand over party responsibilities to his deputy Dr Ongkili during the party congress that will be held from Nov 13 to Nov 15.

KOTA KINABALU: Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, one of Malaysia’s longest serving assemblyman and MP, is set to retire as Parti Bersatu Sabah president in November.

The 76-year-old Pairin, who founded and led PBS since 1985, is expected to hand over the reins of the party to his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili during the party congress that will be held from Nov 13 to Nov 15.
