Kedah exco member marries businessman

Nuptial bliss: Suraya and Zulkifli held a glittering wedding graced by royalty.

ALOR SETAR: Kedah exco member Datuk Suraya Yaacob’s wedding to a businessman was a glittering affair attended by royalty and VIPs.

The 47-year-old politician and her businessman husband Datuk Zulkifli Ishak, 50, had the akad nikah ceremony at her house in Lorong Menteri 2 before proceeding to the wedding reception at the Dewan Centennial Sultan Abdul Halim in Kolej Sultan Abdul Hamid here yesterday.

Some 600 guests attended the reception which was graced by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah.

Also present were Kedah Regency Council chairman Tunku Temen-ggong Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah and his consort Tunku Puan Temenggong Kedah Puan Sri Tengku Maliha Tengku Arif and Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah and his wife Datin Seri Hizam Awang Ahmad.

Suraya, who is the Women, Development, Agriculture and Agro Based, Entrepreneur Development, Community Welfare Committee chairman, Sungai Tiang assemblyman and Pendang Wanita Umno division chief, received a RM10,000 dowry, a ring and a gold bracelet.

She thanked everyone for attending her wedding, adding it was their second marriage.

Her first husband Syed Al-Fandi Syed Mansor Barakbah, 47, passed away on Feb 18, 2014, of a brain infection. They have two sons.

The couple will hold another reception on July 24 at Wisma Perwira’s Perkasa Ballroom in Kuala Lumpur.
