KUANTAN: The Pahang state government will introduce special registration plates - VIP 1 to VIP 9999 series - to fund the promotion for Visit Pahang Year 2017.
Sources from the state government said its request for the special registration plates had been approved by the Ministry of Transport and the state government would pay RM1mil to the Road Transport Department for exclusive rights to the special registration series.
“The aim of selling the special VIP registration numbers or in short ‘Visit Pahang’ is to gather funds needed for the promotion of the Visit Pahang Year 2017 (TMP 2017).
“It is also to avoid dependency on the state government’s allocations nor sponsorship from any parties as this effort requires a relatively high cost for promotions from here to London.
“Besides that, the state government also intend to issue special registration number series as a commemorative item of TMP 2017,” said the source when contacted Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the state government hope the sales of the special VIP numbers would help raise a high bid as accomplished by the registration number ‘F’ for Putrajaya.
He said, the state government is expected to call for a special press conference to announce the initiative after all related matters with respective parties have been finalised. - Bernama
