GEORGE TOWN: The family of 96-year-old woman Yap Siew Lan proudly upheld a Chinese tradition – with the help of some hydraulic power – when they fulfilled her final wish of being laid to rest in a traditionally-made coffin.
Weighing over 300kg, made of hardwood and built without a single nail, 60 pallbearers would have had to take turns carrying her coffin uphill to her grave on the hillslope cemetery in Batu Gantong. They called in a crane.
