Influencer arrested after three-year-old girl tests positive for THC

MELAKA: A social media influencer has been detained over an investigation in a case where a three-year-old girl tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a compound derived from ganja.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the case came to light after the child was brought to Hospital Melaka in a semi-conscious condition at about 5pm on April 14.

He said initial investigations revealed that the girl had been taken by her mother from a babysitter’s house in Sungai Putat here before being rushed for medical attention.

"The victim was in a serious condition,” he said on Wednesday (April 22).

DCP Dzulkhairi said police arrested the 39-year-old suspect at about 9.30pm on April 15.

He added that the suspect has no prior criminal record and tested negative for drugs.

“The suspect was remanded for seven days from April 16 to April 22, and the remand has been extended for a further five days until next Monday to facilitate investigations,” he said.

He said the investigation paper was referred to the deputy public prosecutor on Wednesday (April 22) and his men are awaiting further instructions.

DCP Dzulkhairi added that the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both upon conviction.
