KUALA LUMPUR: In a landmark judgment, the High Court here ruled Friday that High Commissions do not enjoy immunity over labour disputes.

The Court said this when deciding an application for a judicial review by Chu Siew Mei @ Karen, a former Australian High Commission office manager.

Chu applied for a court order to strike out the decision of the Industrial Relations director-general dated Feb 5, 2014, that he and the Department had no jurisdiction to handle her case on the grounds that her former employer had diplomatic immunity.

The High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) judge Justice Asmabi Mohamad allowed her judicial review bid with costs of RM4,000.
