PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) may need to replace the aerotrains at the KL International Airport (KLIA) as these are nearly 20 years old, said Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
Responding to yesterday’s aerotrain service breakdown – the second time in six months – the Transport Minister said it was the responsibility of MAHB to ensure that all of their facilities were always in good condition.
“They (MAHB) have to look at the trains as these are almost 20 years old. They have to see if this needs to be changed, repaired or if maintenance has to be conducted.
“If it needs to be changed, then change it. It is MAHB’s responsibility to ensure good and convenient services for the tourists.
“I will direct MAHB to give me a quick report on the incident. We do not want this to happen again,” Liow told reporters at his office here.
MAHB, said Liow, had given its assurance that the aerotrain service would be fixed in a day.
Earlier, the aerotrain service, which ferries passengers from the main terminal building to the satellite building at KLIA, stopped functioning, causing chaos at the airport.
Bus services were made available to transport passengers to their respective terminals.
