IPOH: A teenage girl died after her husband had allegedly hit her in the face multiple times at their house in Ladang Sengat, Simpang Pulai here on Sunday.

The victim, identified as S. Durga Devi, 17, was found motionless on the ground by police with injuries that looked like punch marks on her face.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said the police were told that the incident took place around 7.30am from members of the public who heard the couple fighting in their house.

"The couple had been quarrelling since midnight until around 5am, according to their neighbours.

"We believe that the conflict happened due to marital problems," he said.

ACP Sum said samples from blood stains found outside the house would be sent to the Forensic Unit to determine whom it came from.

"The victim has been taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for a post-mortem," he said.

ACP Sum also said the victim's 27-year-old husband, who works as a labourer, was arrested at the scene to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

No weapons were seized at the scene.

The couple have been married for a year and have no children.
