PETALING JAYA: The much-anticipated meeting to determine the fate of Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir is set to take place Monday afternoon.

The meeting is expected to be held at Wisma Darul Aman in Alor Setar at 2pm and will be between state Barisan Nasional assemblymen and members of the Kedah Regency Council.

A number of assemblymen contacted by The Star confirmed that they have received messages or were contacted by officers from Wisma Darul Aman on the meeting.

It is also learnt they would be summonsed to meet the council one by one.

The Kedah Mentri Besar crisis erupted after 14 division chiefs and wing leaders led by Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah declared on Jan 20 that they had lost confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership and urged Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to take action.

It is believed that Ahmad Bashah has his eyes set on the Mentri Besar position.

Since then, a total of 19 Barisan assemblymen have signed statutory declarations to endorse the change.

Last Wednesday, Mukhriz had to cancel a state exco meeting after only three out of nine members turned up.

It is understood that Najib had presented one name to the Kedah Regency Council. A formal announcement on the Mentri Besar matter would be made in due course.
