HUTAN MELINTANG: Bagan Datoh is now officially a sub-district in Perak, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the official declaration for the town was made following the unanimous approval of the Perak Sultan, Perak Mentri Besar and the state secretary.

"With this declaration, it will surely pave the way for major improvements and developments to this place.

"But physical change is not enough. More importantly, Bagan Datoh residents must also grow spiritually for a stronger foundation together," he said in his speech during the opening of the Bagan Datoh Fiesta at SMK Hutan Melintang on Saturday.

The fiesta saw people coming from near and far to enjoy the food, shopping, and games set up specifically for the event.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is also Bagan Datoh MP, teased the 10,000-strong crowd at the fiesta that something even bigger was coming to the sub-district in the near future, but declined to reveal further.

Bagan Datoh is a township around 26km from here. Its main economic activity is fishing.
