PETALING JAYA: TBWA Kuala Lumpur and Maxis Bhd are the inaugural winners for the Malaysia EFFIE Awards’ Agency of the Year and Brand of the Year awards respectively.
The two new categories – Agency of the Year and Brand of the Year – were introduced this year as part of the Awards theme for 2015, “Change”.
Malaysian Advertisers Asso-ciation (MAA) president Margaret Au-Yong said the new awards were aimed at encouraging more effective advertising campaigns in the future.
She said this year’s marketing campaigns had been top-notch in quality.
“The winners really deserved to win,” she added.
TBWA Kuala Lumpur group chief executive officer Aaron Cowie said his team was delighted with the win, which came from the agency’s successful campaigns such as the Eveready Book of Play.
“The win is awesome and we also owe it to our clients,” he said at the awards ceremony on Thursday.
Maxis Bhd head of marketing services Sulin Lau said: “We had three agencies contributing to our win today – Ogilvy, APD, and Leo Burnett – we love their work and we’re glad the judges feel the same.”
Other winners this year include Bank Simpanan Nasional’s (BSN) #KucingHappy campaign by Fishermen Integrated and Malay Mail Online’s Are Malaysians Racists? advertisement by Naga DDB Sdn Bhd.
The annual Malaysia Effie awards is focused on recognising an advertisers’ effectiveness in marketing, highlighting marketing ideas that work, and encouraging thoughtful dialogues.
The awards is organised by the MAA, the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia and Media Specialists Association. It is supported by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation.
Star Media Group’s group chief advertising officer Lim Bee Leng was among those who handed out the awards to winning agencies.
