Matthias Chang gives statement to police

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded the statement of Matthias Chang (pic), lawyer for former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Hassan who is being detained for offences detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

Chang went the Dang Wangi police headquarters at about 9.30am on Monday for his statement to be recorded. He is expected to be at the station again on Friday.

He was accompanied by his lawyer Zainur Zakaria and another of Khairuddin’s lawyer Ahmad Bazlan Che Kasim.

Ahmad Bazlan said Chang was cooperating with the police and would return to the police station on Friday to continue his statement.

He added that Khairuddin was still warded at Kuala Lumpur Hospital for suspected dengue. Khairuddin’s condition is said to be stable.

Khairuddin is being detained for 28 days under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

He was arrested at his home in Mont Kiara last Friday and remanded. He was rearrested on Wednesday outside the Jalan Duta Courts Complex here after his release from remand for offences detrimental to Parliamentary democracy.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim was reported as saying the police would refer the matter to the deputy public prosecutor for further action after completing their investigations under Sosma.

Khairuddin was arrested under Section 124C of the Penal code for allegedly trying to topple the Government after he had filled reports against 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) in several countries including Britain, Hong Kong, France and the United States.
