Marina Mahathir starts #IamMalaysianFirst campaign

PETALING JAYA: Social activist Datin Marina Mahathir has kick-started a social media campaign called #IamMalaysianFirst to commemorate Malaysia day.

Marina posted five pictures in her Facebook page Wednesday of Malaysians showing their support for the campaign by tagging #iammalaysianfirst, #thisisourmalaysia or #sayabangsamalaysia.

She posted a photo of herself with the caption, “My name is Marina Mahathir. I am Malaysian first.”

On Sunday, the #thisisourmalaysia campaign was announced to spread love and positivity on social media, to show the true meaning of being Malaysians.

Former TV host and producer Rina Omar, who initiated the campaign, is calling on all citizens to post past or present pictures and stories of their family and friends under the hashtag #thisisourmalaysia.

Rina, who grew up in a mixed race family, said the hashtag was to “counter all the negativity and put positivity on social media”.
