IGP refutes ‘sanitary pad’ allegations

PORT KLANG: ‎Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pic) has refuted allegations that eight women detainees were forced to change their sanitary pads in front of female police officers.

''I have checked and there was no such thing. Why would we want to see women changing their sanitary pads?

''Don’t do this, come on. We know we have to safeguard other people's dignity.

''This allegation is too much,'' he said after attending the 68th Marine Police Day celebrations here on Wednesday. ‎

Khalid added that such allegations had been made to ruin the image of the police.

It was reported that more than 100 people were picked up during a raid at popular independent music venue Rumah Api last Friday.

Eight of the 13 women arrested were said to be menstruating and one of them claimed that the detainees were forced to change their sanitary pads in front of female police personnel.

The woman also alleged that detainees were also not allowed to wear their panties throughout their three-day remand at the Pandan Indah police lock-up.

The men and women were picked up during a gig, themed "Party Tonight, Revolution Tomorrow", that was held on the eve of the Bersih 4 rally.

Rumah Api is an established venue in the alternative music scene in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
