Three plead not guilty to cheating seven people of RM172,390


KLANG: Two women and a man pleaded not guilty to multiple charges in a magistrate’s court for allegedly duping seven victims into investing RM172,390 in a non-existent scheme.

V. Lavitha, 23, Barkathunnisa Koonanasalran, 35, and S. Yogeswaran, 34, from Klang here were charged in a magistrate court here Tuesday.

They face a total of 56 charges under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

The offenses were allegedly committed between March 25 and May 31.

All three accused nodded when the charges were read to them in Malay, with Barkathunnisa often seen turning her head to a man sitting in the visitors’ seat.

She was seen sobbing at a point as a court interpreter read the charges to her.

No plea was recorded, as both Magistrate and DPP were not around.

Prosecuting officer ASP S. Elangovan offered bail at RM15,000 for Lavitha and RM20,000 for Barkathunnisa and Yogeswaran, with their passports impounded.  

A Subordinate Court assistant registrar allowed and fixed August 11 for re-mention for Barkathunnisa and Yogeswaran and set August 18 for Lavitha’s re-mention.
