DAP reps in Kelantan to quit

PETALING JAYA: DAP representatives of the Kelantan government are set to resign after the party announced that Pakatan Rakyat no longer exists. 

This was disclosed by DAP’s communications organisation coordinator for Kelantan and Terengganu Lee Chin Chen. 

Three village heads - Tanjung Mas’ Irene Tan, Kota Lama’s David Ng Yang Seng and Kampung Pulai chief Tang Chee Hung - who were appointed under the party’s capacity will resign on Wednesday. 

Lee said that DAP’s Kelantan and Terengganu communications organisation committee supported the central executive committee (CEC)’s decision and the move to quit is final. 

“This action is important to protect the dignity of the party and also to give our support to the CEC.

"The DAP coordinators are disappointed by PAS’ efforts to implement the Syariah Criminal Code II (1993) in Kelantan on hudud. 

“PAS’ action was objected by DAP because it was against Pakatan Rakyat’s joint policy framework and also the Federal Constitution.

"The hudud proposal which was stressed by PAS did not even consider the thoughts of the non-Muslims,” said Lee in a statement. 

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng announced that Pakatan had ceased to exist after the party’s CEC accepted the PAS muktamar’s motion to sever ties with DAP on Tuesday. 

The decision was made during a CEC meeting on Monday night. 

Lim claimed that the pact had come to near-paralysis several times during the past year because PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang violated decisions agreed upon at Pakatan’s leadership meetings. 

On the latest development, Lim said that DAP would work with PKR and all other forces who wanted to see the end of Umno and Barisan Nasional’s one-party rule. 

Pakatan was formed in April 2008, in the wake of the 12th general election.
