PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department has admitted that its officers went too far by forcing a decently dressed woman to don a sarong before they would attend to her.
The department in a statement apologised to Suzanna G.L. Tan and acknowledged there was no such policy.
“JPJ would like to firmly state there is no regulation that says visitors must be provided with a sarong. Clearly, this was an inconvenience to the visitor.”
The department pointed out its offices are subject to a dress code much like other government ministries and departments.
The statement added that JPJ’s priority was to make sure the public is provided with pleasant and efficient service.
