BUKIT JALIL: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) has launched GOASEAN, the first satellite tv travel channel dedicated to showcasing the region.

The new 24-hour travel channel airs on the Astro network and highlights the top shopping, sports, music, festivals and food, attractions in each of Asean’s 10 member countries.

“GOASEAN provides the perfect opportunity to broadcast the benefits of our region to a global audience,” the Prime Minister said when launching the channel here on Tuesday.

GOASEAN is the brainchild of Najib and is part of Malaysia’s aim as chairman of the regional body this year to promote a people-centred Asean.

Najib said that GOASEAN had the potential to grow into a truly international platform, and by offering programmes about all 10 member countries, it would be able to showcase Asean as a globally competitive destination for leisure and business travellers.
