Porn site admin fined RM18,000 for distributing indecent material

KUALA LUMPUR: An administrator of a free-access porn site ended up with an RM18,000 fine after being convicted of distributing indecent material.

Asnizukacaras Saari, 36, pleaded guilty on Thursday to uploading pornographic material to a website, Blog Video Panas Yamani Salim.

Asnizukacaras who works as an account clerk at the Military Housing Cooperative had committed the offence at his workplace on Jalan Wangsa Delima, in Setapak.

According to the statement of facts, a raid by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) found 2,590 pornographic images and 131 lewd videos.

Prosecuting officer from the commission, Zairul Nahar Zakaria urged the court for a harsh sentence, saying that the blog was widely accessible and would lead the public astray.

As of press time, the blog had 1,290 followers and has been blocked by MCMC.

Asnizukacaras plead for leniency, saying it was his first offence and even the cooperative had given him a second chance.

Sessions Court Judge Zulqarnain Hassan said it was a serious offence, citing a similar case in Alor Setar, Kedah where the offender was fined RM5,000.

"The court takes such matters seriously, as such material could lead the public to deviant behaviour," said the judge, in handing down an RM18,000 fine.
