Body of man who fell off cruise liner found


GEORGE TOWN: The body of a man who fell overboard from the cruise liner Star Cruises MV Super Star Libra near here last Friday was found on Monday evening.

The body of Mulianto Raik, 50, an Indonesian, was found 19 nautical miles west of Muka Head near here by local fishermen.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Penang Maritime District 2 enforcement chief Captain Kamaruszaman Abu Hassan said the victim's body was later brought to the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority jetty in Teluk Bahang near here before being handed over to police for further investigation.

"A search and rescue operation was launched on March 13 after a report was received from the ship's captain who saw a man fall from the deck of the liner about eight nautical miles north of Muka Head through closed circuit television camera," he said in a statement here Tuesday.

He said the ship's management found the victim's identity card in a security search when the ship stopped at Sweetenham Pier here. - Bernama
