PETALING JAYA: DAP has warned PAS that the party will no longer be seen as part of Pakatan Rakyat should it push for the amendments to the hudud law in the Kelantan State Assembly on March 18.
In a statement on Sunday, DAP national legal bureau chairman Gobind Singh Deo said this was because such Bill did not have the backing of the Opposition pact and was not part of their common policy framework.
He also said that the Bill would go against the agreement reached in the last Pakatan leadership where the Kelantan state government was told to present the amendments to the Syariah Criminal Offences Act II 1993 to DAP and PKR before it was tabled.
"... It was clearly understood that there should be further discussions between all three parties before any further steps are taken in the matter," said the Puchong MP.
Gobind said if PAS carried on with the Bill, it would amount to an "open and obvious" move against the pact's common policy framework.
"If that be the case, those leaders in PAS who are behind this move must then be brave enough to acknowledge that they have pushed PAS to part ways with Pakatan Rakyat and put into question its credibility in terms of projecting itself as a party which is focused on and wants to work towards strengthening Pakatan Rakyat," he said.
He then went on to remind PAS that it should not warn DAP to keep out of the party’s affairs in Kelantan.
"PAS must remember that for as long as it chooses to remain in Pakatan Rakyat, DAP not only has the right but is also duty bound to ensure that PAS does not act in any manner which undermines the common policy framework," he said.
Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah had reportedly said that no amount of objection from DAP will persuade PAS from attempting to enforce the Islamic penal code in the east coast state.
