PETALING JAYA: The planned hunger strike by Datuk G. Kumaar Aamaan at the Registrar of Societies (ROS) headquarters in Putrajaya on Thursday will plunge the party's ongoing situation with the ROS into chaos, said MIC strategic director strategic director Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari (pic).
"Never in the history of MIC has a president ever sanctioned any party member to protest against the very same Government that he is a Cabinet member of as a representative of the Indian community," said Vell Paari Wednesday.
He said that with this development there were two possibilities, one being that MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel has planned the move to further agitate and antagonize the ROS into taking drastic and detrimental action against MIC.
"(The other is that) the president himself has totally lost control over the reigns of his supporters and the party," said Vell Paari.
He added that the ROS, as a government body had clearly stated that it does not recognise any changes within the party leadership until there is a re-election of the branches it has problems with, divisions and the Central Working Committee (CWC), and that to rectify the error, the legitimate individuals should assume control based on the ROS decision.
"Based on the events unfolding and the Presidents action of going against a government body, there could be a bigger sinister ploy at play," said Vell Paari.
It was reported that G. Kumaar would be holding the hunger strike to protest the ROS directive that his position as MIC secretary-general is invalid.
Before beginning the strike, which will be held in front of the ROS office in Putrajaya, he said he would be handing over a letter to the Home Ministry.
"The letter is addressed to the Home Minister. I am urging him to replace all the officers handling the MIC case.
"I am unhappy with how the investigating officers and the director general are acting in handling this case," he said when contacted Wednesday.
G. Kumaar said he had received the letter from the ROS two days ago, informing him that his position as secretary-general was not valid.
On Dec 5, the ROS had nullified the elections for the party’s three vice-president and 23 central working committee (CWC) posts held during its general assembly in November 2013 and recommended fresh polls within 90 days.
