Moderate quake off northern Sumatra


KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, hit an area off the west coast of northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 2.03am Monday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department reported.

It said in a statement that the epicentre of the earthquake was 542km southwest of Great Nicobar, India, and 1,116km southwest of Langkawi, Kedah.
