Don't rush into action, Proham tells religious authorities

KUALA LUMPUR A clear resolution is needed on the impact of Islam against religious minorities due to Article 121 1(A) of the Federal Constitution, said Association for the Promotion of Human Rights (Proham) secretary-general Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria.

"Article 121 1(A) has been drafted to cover the jurisdiction of the civil and Syariah courts. The Constitution only limits the jurisdiction of the Syariah courts to cover Muslims, it has no jurisdiction over non-Muslims. The main area of conflict comes in disputes between a non-Muslim spouse and a new convert," he said.
