IPOH: Perak Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon has clarified that the death of an elderly woman at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here in March was caused by her deteriorating condition and not by the removal of electro-cardiogram wires and drip hose from her body.

He said the removal of electrodes and medical equipment from Agnes Liu Soo Thye, 76, had not caused her death.

“The electrodes that were hooked on to Liu were a means to monitor her heartbeat.

“This has been explained to the patient’s son, Wong Kok Yew.

“The deceased was given the best care and management,” he said.

Dr Mah was clarifying the article, “Mah: Nurse pulled plug to save another patient’s life”, published in The Star yesterday.

Wong, a Chinese medical shop owner, was reported on Friday as saying that the hospital staff had been negligent and caused his mother’s death on March 16.
