BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Support from family, the community and institutions is important in assisting the recovery process and rebuilding of lives of former drug abuse individuals, said Narcotics Control Bureau Director Datuk Paduka Zalani Ismail.

He said this in his welcoming remarks during the prize presentation ceremony for the second poster drawing competition held in conjunction with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025 at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Hall on Saturday (Feb 7).

He noted that the ceremony was meaningful as it reflected the commitment of all parties in supporting efforts to prevent drug abuse, particularly through education- and awareness-based approaches among the younger generation.

The competition, he added, aimed to uncover students’ talents and creativity while also serving as an effective medium to convey important messages about the dangers of drugs and the importance of making the right life choices.

The director said that through the works produced by the students, the message is conveyed in a creative and easily understood manner, with the drawings not only illustrating the dangers of drug abuse but also highlighting the values of hope, repentance, and shared responsibility in building a healthier and safer society.

He said the competition demonstrated the students’ courage in speaking out and their sensitivity towards a serious social issue.

He called on the students to use the knowledge and awareness gained as a guidance in their daily lives and to have the courage to reject any negative influences that may jeopardise their future.

Congratulating the participants, especially the winners, he noted that every participation is a success, as it contributes to efforts to spread messages of awareness and hope to the wider community.

“Let us together strengthen our resolve and play our roles in supporting prevention, education, and recovery efforts against drug abuse, for the well-being of our children, families, and society as a whole,” he said. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
