Khalid defeated in Kuala Selangor PKR divisional elections

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has been defeated by former Kapar MP S. Manickavasagam for the Kuala Selangor PKR division chief's post.

In the polls held last Saturday, Manickavasagam clinched 701 votes to Khalid's 515.

Khalid however managed to obtain more votes than incumbent Azmin Ali for the deputy president's race.

The Kuala Selangor PKR voters gave Khalid 517 votes, while Azmin received 440 votes and Datuk Saifuddin Nasution received 50.

Manickavasagam was viewed as an underdog after being suspended by the party for several weeks for speaking out against money politics.

However his suspension was revoked and he emerged victorious against incumbent Khalid, whose loss is indicative of declining support from the party's grassroots.

Manickavasagam’s public relationship with Khalid is also a strained one, with the former accusing the Selangor MB of involvement in money politics. Khalid has vehemently denied the allegations.
