PUTRAJAYA: A total of 88 employers or 1.7% of employers nationwide have not implemented the minimum wage, as of Feb 28.
Human Resources Deputy Minister Datuk Ismail Abdul Muttalib said a total of 5,189 labour inspections on minimum wage compliance were carried out by the ministry recently, to ensure employers implemented the 2012 National Minimum Wage Order which was enforced on Jan 1.
“A total of 67 claims were received by the Labour Department as at Feb 28 on non-payment of minimum wages.
“Of that, 54 claims (81%) were resolved, with the balance of 13 claims still being handled by the officers in charge,” he said.
He said this when opening a seminar with The World Bank, International Labour Organisation (ILO) and The National Wages Technical Committee on Review of Minimum Wages Order 2012 organised by the ministry here yesterday. — Bernama
