PETALING JAYA: When one speaks of inspiring women, names of larger than life figures like scientist Marie Curie, artist Frida Kahlo, and healers like Mother Theresa and Florence Nightingale come to mind.

Today we celebrate five Malaysian women who have excelled in their respective fields, and are not content to rest on their laurels. In no particular order, here are some of our very own home-grown superwomen:

1) Humanitarian - Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood (Mercy Malaysia founder)

A veteran of humanitarian missions in more than 15 countries including Myanmar, Sudan, Lebanon, Sri Langka, The Philippines and North Korea, Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood has seen more images of death, destruction and suffering than most hardened soldiers.
