DAP's re-election of CEC on Sept 29

PETALING JAYA: The DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) re-election will take place on Sept 29 and its 17 expelled delegates can take part if they want to, said the party’s secretary-general Lim Guan Eng. 

He said the candidate list for the re-election would be the same as the list used in the 2012 National Congress last December.

“This is because there is no controversy over the list of nominated candidates and the ROS (Registrar of Societies) had instructed only the re-election of the CEC,” he said.

He said the CEC meeting on Thursday had also decided that the venue of the re-election would be confirmed later. 

Lim said the party’s parliamentary liaison committee AGM and state ordinary conventions would be postponed to a date fixed by the new CEC. 

He said the party would appoint an international accounting firm to monitor the counting process, while its national organising secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook and election strategist Dr Ong Kian Ming would serve as election organising committee chairmen and returning officer, respectively. 


On July 30, ROS director-general Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman ordered DAP to hold new CEC elections saying that he was not satisfied with the “technical glitch” explanation given.

There was a controversy in the CEC election when Lim’s political secretary Zairil Khir Johari obtained 803 votes after a re-calculation of votes, as opposed to 305 during the initial count.
