MACC instructed to continue probe on Azmin

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Operations Review Panel has ordered an investigation against Azmin Ali for allegedly owning excessive assets and properties not befitting a civil servant.

Panel chairman Tan Sri Dr Hadenan Abdul Jalil said it has ordered the MACC to continue the investigation based on investigation papers that were opened in 2009.

"Investigation to ascertain the truth has continued based on additional information received," he told reporters here Thursday.

Those involved in the investigation, including former deputy prime minister and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would be called to give their statements.

Dr Hadenan said that the main challenge in investigating the case was to find concrete evidence, since it happened in 1995.

Azmin, the PKR deputy president, is alleged to have accumulated the wealth when serving as private secretary to the deputy prime minister between 1995 and 1997.
