Perak to offer free e-learning modules

IPOH: Perak is the first state in the country to provide topical e-learning modules in additional mathematics and physics for SPM students for free.

Funded by the state government's welfare arm, Yayasan Perak, the sponsorship would allow 61,000 students in the state to access a total of 453 instruction and tutorial videos by The Star Education columnist Sunny Yee at www.EzLearn2U.my and gooroo.my.

Yee, who was here for the launching of the modules by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir yesterday, said each module costs RM1,359 and covered the Form Four and Form Five syllabus of both subjects.

”It is the first time such videos have been produced to teach additional mathematics and physics.

”Unlike previous attempts that only employ animation to teach the subjects, the videos will make students feel that they are actually being taught by me,” he said, adding that the videos were produced in three months.

Yee, an author with 28 years of experience teaching both subjects, said it gave the students a sense of realism to have him tutoring them as they watched the videos.

In his speech, Dr Zambry said the modules could help students who were poor in both subjects to improve.

Dr Zambry also expressed hope that other states would emulate Perak by providing the modules to their students for free.
