Nation-building to focus on family needs, says Shahrizat

PETALING JAYA: Family perspectives will soon be integrated in all aspects of nation-building, said Women, Family and Community Development Minis­try Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

Under the newly drafted National Family Policy and its action plan, all government and corporate projects, laws and policies must consider the family perspective that was outlined by the ministry.

The Cabinet approved the plan at its meeting last week.

“For instance, building developers now must take into account every aspect of the building that may impact a family.

“They must provide lifts for the elderly, baby changing rooms that can be accessed by both parents and care centres for children,” she said.

The family policy will also involve the youth by creating programmes and services such as counselling sessions and more services in shopping malls.

Shahrizat said this after launching the Christmas celebration hosted by Wanita Barisan Na­­sional.
