Top cop Musa retires after 41 years

KUALA LUMPUR: In pursuit of criminals, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan had gone undercover and even posed as a trishaw rider and sugarcane juice seller.

These are undoubtedly among the many episodes the 58-year-old Musa, who retires today, will remember after 41 years in the force.

He was given a farewell parade at the Police Training Centre here yesterday to commemorate the occasion. Musa will be succeeded by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar, 57.

The law graduate from the United Kingdom joined the force as an inspector on Nov 11, 1969 and held various positions, including as a prosecuting officer, CID director and Johor police chief. He became IGP in September 2006.

Musa also led the police investigation team into the sodomy and corruption cases involving former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in 1999.

In March this year, Musa initiated a major agenda to transform the police force by focusing on efficiency in solving crimes and introducing a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, abuse of power and corruption. – Bernama
