Silver for our gamers at ESWC

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Team Kingsurf has won the silver at the Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) in San Jose, United States.

The team beat nearly 600 other professional gamers from Pakistan, Sweden, Canada, France, Britain and the United States to advance to the third-day finals on Aug 27.

Team members Lee Wen Chek, 20, Ng Wei-Poong, 18, Lee Vei Siang, 18, Ng Kim Jen, 20, and Mar Yung-Chia, 20, played in the strategy game Warcraft: Defense of the Ancients against Singapore’s Team Zenith to clinch the silver in the “Olympics” of electronic sports competition.

Tang Chee Keong, the sixth member of Team Kingsurf, played in the Trackmania Nations Forever car racing game and secured the 25th place out of 30 contenders from around the world.

Master minds: (Clockwise) Mar, Wei-Poong, Kim Jen, Wen Chek and Vei Siang did the country proud in the ‘Olympics’ of the electronic sports competition.

The three-day competition gathered some 650 video gamers from 40 countries vying for US$26,000 (RM90,000) prize pool for the top three placings and a chance to stake their claim as the world’s best gamers.

The Malaysian contingent was organised and led by Go International Group Sdn Bhd.

Team manager and Go International managing director Jasmine Low said the ESWC was a good platform for the team to sharpen their skill further for future gaming competitions.
