KUALA LUMPUR: Despite the light rain, thousands thronged Dataran Merdeka to celebrate the nation's 51st independence day.
They were treated to multicultural performances, a colourful display of fireworks and a special appearance by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
