Paloh grabs six film awards

Eman: Best Actor for Buai Laju-Laju.

KUALA LUMPUR: Paloh, a film set during the Japanese Occupation, grabbed six awards including Best Director and Best Film at the 17th Malaysian Film Festival last night.  

The filmmakers walked away with the cash prize worth RM25,000 for the Best Film category. 

The awards show, held at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre, here, presented a total of 14 awards. 

Other winners at the event were Afdlin Shauki, who wrote, starred and directed in the film Buli which won Best Original Story and Best Screenplay.  

Afdlin: Wins the Best Screenplay category.

Veteran actor Eman Manan received the award for Best Actor for the crime-noir film Buai Laju-Laju and Nasha Aziz took home the Best Actress award for the film Trauma.  

“I'd be lying if I said I was disappointed,” said Eman in a press conference after the event.  

This is the latest film Eman starred in after appearing in the 1999 movie Lenjan. 

The film festival has two separate awards shows.  

The awards show was hosted by Jalalludin Hassan.  

Also present at the event were the Raja Muda of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah and Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.
