TODAY, we Pekembar, Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Melayu Bersatu, better known as Umno, short for United Malays National Organisation, sit in assembly for the 54th time in an atmosphere of peace, prosperity and security.
Umno as the backbone of the Barisan Nasional coalition party has governed Malaysia since Merdeka 46 years ago. For a party which struggled for independence this is a record. Not many parties which struggled for the independence of their countries at the time of Umno’s struggle are still in existence or in power.
