THE most popular booths at South Korea’s Buddhism convention weren’t selling sutras or incense – they were selling “Buddhistcore”.

Attendees in their 20s and 30s jostled for T-shirts reading “Shut up and meditate” and key chains of the Buddha with neon hearts for eyes.
