Protest against Azam Baki concludes without incident, cops reviewing demonstration

KUALA LUMPUR: A protest against Tan Sri Azam Baki has concluded without incident and police will review the demonstration to ensure no 3R issues were mentioned.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said about 600 policemen were on duty and that the organisers engaged with authorities before the event.

"Speeches were made on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman before the group moved to the Dataran Merdeka area, where it concluded," he said.

"The demonstration went by smoothly, with cooperation from the public. This is what we want," he said.

Comm Datuk Fadil added that the demonstration would be reviewed to ensure no 3R issues were touched upon.

"The police will take immediate action if there were any," he said on Sunday (Feb 15).

The group held the demonstration regarding the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner's alleged ownership of shares.

Several MPs, including Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, Wong Chen and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, were also seen at the demonstration.

In his speech, Rafizi urged coalition partners to take a clear stand on the issue as this could sway public opinion.

He also said they would take to the streets again if an independent and transparent investigation into the issue was not conducted.

On Saturday (Feb 14), Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said that a special committee led by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar had commenced a probe into the issue.
