IT’S Christmas time – and the shopping season is here again.
While most people are thronging the shopping malls to buy what they need, many are heading to the online shops to get the best bargains.
According to Pos Malaysia, parcel delivery has been growing for the national mail service over the past few years.
At its peak, they handle around 550,000 items daily.
The highest number managed by Pos Malaysia was one million parcels, says its Operations representative – during the 11.11 online sales period.
“It was a new record for us, ” he says.
“On average, we handle around 350,000 parcels daily.”
The end of the year is usually the busiest time for them, he notes, due to online sales promotion such as the recent 11.11 and 12.12.
While Christmas contributes to a high number of online purchases and parcel deliveries, Hari Raya is the busiest festive season for parcel delivery, he adds.
Chinese New Year is another big and important festive season for online shopping in the country.
According to Google, Malaysians start researching online for products related to the festive season five weeks before the auspicious day.
