PUTRAJAYA: Selected schools under the Education Ministry’s reform initiative will receive up to RM100,000 each to carry out transformation efforts aimed at improving education, student development and teachers’ professionalism, says its minister Fadhlina Sidek.
Speaking at the Education Ministry’s monthly assembly on Tuesday (July 28), she said the initiative would involve 10 schools in each district — comprising five primary schools and five secondary schools — which would be elevated as the best schools in their respective districts.
However, Fadhlina stressed that school reforms could not be achieved through shortcuts or limited to physical improvements.
“Reform is about the intention to see changes in culture, ecosystem, and mindset that must be developed by the entire school community to raise the status of the school and make it the best school,” she said.
She said the RM100,000 allocation would allow selected schools to carry out changes and reforms based on their own plans, needs and aspirations.
Fadhlina said reforms would require changes not only in how schools operate, but also in how educators think and carry out their responsibilities.
"It will change not only the way we work, think and carry out responsibilities, including teaching, but also matters involving mental health, resolving bullying issues and ensuring the well-being of the entire school community is embedded in every member," she said.
She also said that the Education Ministry will begin its school reform programme next week.
