DO not let financial difficulties hold you back from pursuing your studies.

That was Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir’s advice to students who received offers to public higher education institutions.

“If there are any problems or if you are facing financial constraints or obstacles, please contact and inform me and the ministry.

“(If you have gotten a spot), register first. I have asked all vice-chancellors to help make it easier for all students to register.

“At the ministry, we have various forms of financial aid, including the SULUNG scheme and early education assistance through Yayasan Perkasa Siswa (YPS),” he said in a Facebook post on Sept 11.

Application results for admission into public universities for the 2025/2026 academic session were announced on Sept 5.

Zambry said at a time when others were busy preparing to start their varsity journey, there were still those who had successfully secured a spot to study but were feeling helpless as they just did not have the means to do anything.

He shared that the ministry had recently stepped in to ensure two students who were facing financial difficulties would not miss the opportunity to further their studies.

A Facebook user had tagged him to highlight the plight of her neighbour who was considering rejecting an offer at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Arau, Perlis, because of financial constraints. The student’s cousin, who had been offered a place at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), was also facing similar financial challenges and had almost declined the offer.

“I was moved that the two of them were willing to work as helpers at a burger stall earning RM20 per day to fund their studies.

“Both of them scored very good results at matriculation level with a CGPA of 3.75 and 3.92, respectively.

“I told them not to worry about fees or preparation expenses. We will assist and make it easier for them,” he said, adding that the ministry, together with UiTM and UUM, had mobilised support to ensure the students could register.
