DEMI raising funds for dialysis patients

A GROUP of part-time MBA students from the Graduate School of Business, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM-GSB) is making a meaningful difference through the Dialysis Education and Mobility Initiative (DEMI) – a project aimed at enhancing the quality of life of patients by addressing transportation challenges, upgrading dialysis centre facilities, and raising public awareness of kidney health.

Transportation is a persistent hurdle for many underprivileged dialysis patients, particularly those who are physically weakened after treatment.

To address this, DEMI is raising funds to purchase and refurbish transport vehicles that will be donated to the MAIS Dialysis Centre in Taman Melawati.

The corporate social responsibility initiative under Beacon of Hope is carried out in collaboration with Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan and KPJ Kajang Specialist Hospital, under the guidance of UKM-GSB senior lecturer Dr Ummu Ajirah Abdul Rauf.

From June to August, activities, including a virtual charity run, health screenings and a public talk on early detection, prevention and treatment of kidney-related illnesses, were organised as part of the DEMI initiative.

Those who would like to support DEMI can reach out to Ummu Ajirah at ummu@ukm.edu.my.
