WITH technical and vocational education and training (TVET) gaining momentum in recent years, providers must remain agile to ensure a workforce that is industry-ready.

Demonstrating her leadership and excellence in elevating the prestige of TVET education at the tertiary level, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Massila Kamalrudin recently added another feather to her cap.

She was named the recipient of the Icon of Education Award 2025 at the Malaysia Industry Personalities & Entrepreneurs Awards 2025, held at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on May 29.

Prof Massila received a trophy and an award certificate from Tunku Hajah Mariam Zaharah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, sister of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

In a media statement, UTeM said the award recognises Prof Massila’s credibility, excellence and contributions in leading Malaysia’s top TVET university.

“Prof Massila also stands out as a committed icon who champions the nation’s aspirations by empowering women in TVET through the comprehensive Job Empowerment by Learning and Inclusive Technical Advancement programme.

“At the same time, she leads as chairperson of the Malaysian Technical University Network and the Technology and Technical Accreditation Council under the Malaysia Board of Technologists,” said UTeM.

It added that Prof Massila consistently ensures that the planning, initiatives and achievements of the university – as well as of the organisations under her leadership – align with the Higher Education Ministry’s focus areas and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

UTeM further noted that Prof Massila continues to enhance Malaysia’s global profile through higher education by fostering strategic partnerships between the varsity and universities across continents.
