A fest for the senses

That’s a wrap: The graduating students posing for a photo at the exhibition venue in KL.

Artworks and projects reflecting current industry trends recently captured visitors’ imagination at “Conflux” – a graduation show by The One Academy students.

Blending Malaysia’s rich and diverse heritage into their storytelling and designs, the showcase, featuring the works of 28 young talents, was held at GMBB, Kuala Lumpur, from March 1 to 16.

Besides large-scale immersive installations and experiential works of art that allowed visitors to experience multi-sensory environments, the exhibition also featured fun 2D and 3D interactive games created by the students.

The games were specially designed to engage players with interesting narratives, dynamic characters and captivating visuals.

Presented by the academy’s BA (Hons) Digital Media Design and BA (Hons) Graphic Design students, the exhibition offered visitors a chance to see the next generation of designers and visionaries bring their bold ideas to life.

The theme, Conflux, was inspired by the word “confluence”. Just like two rivers joining, these designers attempted to merge their ideas to create something extraordinary for visitors.

From immersive installations to captivating visual designs, the exhibition showcased the fusion of advanced technology and creative thinking, shaping the future of entertainment and branding.

Among the projects were award-winning pieces at the prestigious International Rookie Awards and Kancil Awards.

Thanking their “backbone” during the exhibition’s opening ceremony, the group’s president, Danielle Chong Shi Yi, said their “fathers” – Digital Media Design Faculty head Cheang Lin Yew and Advertising & Graphic Design Faculty head Yan Li Wen – as well as their design supervisors, played instrumental roles in supporting and guiding the students.

Although the students were from different majors, design team leader Gavin Gan Zi Yang said everyone worked together well.

“Just like water, we are fluid and ready for the challenges ahead,” he said.

Cheang said the students had proven that they were not only strong and resilient individuals, but also a visionary team.

“I’m incredibly proud to have been part of your journey.

“Always strive to create something amazing. I want to see you all changing the world.

“It won’t be easy, but I know you can do it, one pixel at a time. And lastly, be a happy designer,” he said.

Yan said there are some things in life that require conflux to multiply their value.

“Individually, we achieve little, but together, the value increases exponentially.

“All good work adds value to society, so always fuel your passion with a purposeful vision,” he advised.

Offering an exciting perspective into the ever-evolving creative world, the exhibition drew art enthusiasts, aspiring creatives and locals.

The projects, said the academy, were a testament to the hard work and talent of its young designers.

“The exhibition served as a gateway for visitors and industry professionals to engage with the artists, giving them the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their artworks and the process behind them,” it said in a press release.
