Ideas, underlined by moral values, are essential in shaping Malaysia’s future, says the Prime Minister.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia can be developed into a great nation if intellectuals, students, and political leaders work together to uphold and restore fundamental principles, fostering a stronger society through the proliferation of ideas.
Speaking at Putrajaya Festival of Ideas (PFOI), he said such events can foster new thinking, creativity, and critical thinking, particularly among the youth. The PFOI, said Anwar, is about the proliferation of ideas which is vital for progress. Ideas and ideals, he added, are essential for life.

He, however, warned against the “confusion of ideas,” advocating instead for the nurturing of concepts rooted in humanity, goodness, and pure values.
“Ideas must be processed through the lens of moral integrity to avoid chaos.
“But, ideas alone are not enough. Without action, they are like a tree without fruit,” he said during the PFOI “Young Malaysian Ideas” session on Nov 28, last year.

Underscoring the significance of aligning innovation with Malaysia’s identity, values, culture, and faith, he called for progress that is rooted in these elements, while embracing advancements in mathematics, digital technology, and artificial intelligence (AI).
These, he stressed, must serve a higher purpose, contributing not only to economic growth but also to societal well-being and justice.
Citing instances of leaders and institutions prioritising personal or organisational gain over societal good, he said this has led to the erosion of trust in political, corporate, and even educational spheres.
“Leaders and intellectuals must channel ideas toward justice, humanity, and positive values.
“Critical thinking, innovation and embracing diverse perspectives, from political and economic theories to philosophical reflections, must be tethered to principles of equity and integrity to ensure meaningful and sustainable progress,” he said.
