UTAR grad excels in ACCA exams

UNIVERSITI Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) alumna Ng Thian Jie (pic) was recognised as one of the country’s top prize winners of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) March 2021 exams.

The UTAR Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Accounting graduate is one of two Malaysians who obtained first place in Malaysia.

She was also ranked 22nd worldwide for her achievements in the ‘Advanced Taxation’ paper, the varsity said in a press release on April 27.

Ng who said she believes in preparing ahead before working on any task, said: “I always make sure that I am prepared. I avoid last minute preparations.”

Sharing her success tips, Ng said doing past year papers is crucial “as you are not only revising the syllabus, but also working on mastering exam answering techniques”.

Hands-on learning experience from her current job in the taxation field and knowledge acquired during her tertiary studies at the Faculty of Business and Finance, Kampar Campus, proved invaluable, she said.

The most challenging aspect of her studies, she added, was to stay motivated.

“Some of my peers gave up halfway while others persevered to achieve their dream of obtaining a professional qualification.

“There were times when I doubted my decision of pursuing this journey but I braved through the doubts and stayed focused on my goals in life, ” she said, adding that juggling her studies and work obligations was one of the biggest challenges she faced in preparing for the exams.

“I had to study even after a tiring day at work but I made sure to use whatever free time I had to study.

“Good time management is equally important as being determined and persistent to achieving success, ” she said.

Do what you love, and love what you do, she advised.

Ng still has three more papers to complete before she earns her ACCA qualification.

UTAR enables accounting students to join the ACCA acceleration programme during their studies at the university.
