MELAKA-MANIPAL Medical College recently unveiled its new status as a university college and is now known as Manipal University College Malaysia (MUCM).
The ceremony was broadcast online to mark the new brand launched by Manipal Education and Medical Group India chairman Datuk Dr Ranjan Pai.
Established in 1997, MUCM is now poised to be a global new-age university college from the House of Manipal with a legacy in the field of healthcare education.
“MUCM has been a vision in motion for the past few years. With its birth, we are excited to breathe new life into medical and healthcare education, not only in Malaysia but in Asia.
“Through their education journey with us, we aim to drive a culture of empathy and continue to mould physicians who are highly skilled and also compassionate caregivers to society, ” said its chief executive Prof Dr Jaspal Singh at the launch.
With this upgrade, MUCM will now have the authority to confer her own degrees, broaden her offerings beyond the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), and contribute towards the postgraduate arena with master and doctoral degrees.
“As MUCM, we will seek to enrich the educational experience of our students – present and future. We will seek to advance traditional pedagogy into a contemporary form so that our students become thinkers and visionaries.
“We will inspire transformation in our laboratories so that research forms the cornerstone of our students’ learning, and cultivate a teaching and learning environment that promote multidisciplinary collaborations, ” Prof Jaspal added.
Acknowledging the support and knowledge transfer received from colleagues at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), which is an institute of eminence in India and ranks as one of the top private universities in India, Prof Jaspal said MUCM is on its way to becoming a full-fledged university.
